Calls due to opioid overdoses in Hasting and Prince Edward counties, including Belleville and Quinte West, increased dramatically in February from the month before.
According to Hastings Prince Edward Public Health’s opioid dashboard there were 53 opioid-related calls to Hastings Quinte Paramedic Services in February, up from 34 in January.
The Belleville Police Service and the OPP also dealt with 53 similar incidents, also an increase.
The number of visits to emergency departments due to opioid illness in February was 71, up from 28 in January.
However, the number of opioid-related deaths decreased to four in February from six in January.
