Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit will not press charges against two OPP officers after an incident
at a remote cabin in Marmora and Lake on the afternoon of December 14 2023.
The SIU says a suspect, a 48-year-old man, was shot in the shoulder after shooting at police.
Earlier, police were called by the property owner warning the man had threatened to burn the camp down and had access to guns.
He asked the police to remove him. Upon arrival, the man threatened a shootout and the OPP activated an Emergency Response Team and negotiators.
Officers attempted to negotiate for hours with the suspect and eventually fired a non-lethal weapon at the windows.
The SIU says in return, the man fired his shotgun three times at officers. Then one officer returned fire.
The man left the cabin and was taken into custody.
The Special Investigations Unit has concluded its investigation finding no reasonable grounds to charge the officers involved.
