Provincial funding through two Ontario Trillium Foundation grants is boosting Grace Inn Shelter’s Belleville operations.
Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith announced the funding during a brief press event on Friday.
A total of $227,100 has been awarded to Grace Inn. The first grant was $53,300 of capital funding which was used to replace the roof and insulation at Shiloh House, Grace Inn’s six-bed transitional housing home.
An additional $173,800 allocation came through the Resilient Communities Fund, which will support the hiring of a volunteer and outreach coordinator for a two-year period.
Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith said that he was glad to see the funds put to good use.
“We’ve been able to fund a lot of very worthwhile charitable and not-for-profit organizations across the Bay of Quinte for the last six years through increased funding that we’ve made available to the Trillium Foundation,” said MPP Smith. “Great organizations like Grace Inn that are doing amazing work in our communities, so very rewarding to see actually a roof over people’s heads.”
Grace Inn Executive Director Rob Crisp welcomed the additional funding.
“It’s definitely a gift to us. We try so hard to do what we do on a daily basis, and one of the things we have to continually go after is funding,” said Director Crisp. “This was a very welcome surprise when we received word from Todd’s office that we’ve received funding on both these ventures.”
The new volunteer and outreach coordinator funded by the grant will also implement a youth homelessness prevention program.
