The goal of providing a community services hub along with affordable housing at a former public school in Picton remains alive.
Thursday, Prince Edward County council’s Committee of the Whole will discuss a staff recommendation that the county go ahead and purchase Queen Elizabeth School in Picton on its own.
Despite recently being turned down for federal funding, County staff say the need for affordable housing and a services hub remains great and council should buy the property for $1,375,000 and then immediately consider options that could involve partnerships with the private sector.
Staff also recommended immediately doing due diligence work on the site.
The deadline to purchase from the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board is June 10.
The committee meets at 1 o’clock Thursday afternoon at Shire Hall.
