The grand prize draw for a Salem Cruise Lite Travel Trailer in the Belleville General Hospital Foundation’s Camp4Cancer Lotto took place at Carl Cox RV Sales & Service on Wednesday.
“This is the first draw in a series of five planned for 2024. So it’s been an incredible result,” executive director of the Belleville General Hospital Foundation, Steve Cook, tells media.
“Our target goal was $150,000. We raised just shy of $148,000. So almost on the money and sold just over 7,100 tickets. So we’re really, really pleased with the results.”
The winner of the grand prize draw was Norma Hitchlock from Trenton with ticket number 0091.
Cook says it’s been great to see the community rally behind the hospital foundation through its lotto draws.
“We didn’t even think that we’d be doing over $1.1 million raised to date with a further $750,000 planned to be raised this year. That’s massive,” Cook said.
“It’s huge for the hospital, huge for the partnership with the oncology department, because of course not only do we fund lifesaving oncology drugs, but also replacement equipment for that department specifically.”
With one draw down, another one is set to begin called the Cruise4Cancer.
More details about that draw will be released Wednesday afternoon but Cook says they have decided to sell a slightly fewer number of tickets to help give those who buy tickets a better chance of winning.
“We try and time these initiatives as per the annual calendar or people’s behaviour as to what they might do with these prizes,” Cook said.
“For example, we’re in April now, so a perfect time for somebody to come and pick up this RV and it was 22 degrees outside yesterday so get out, start exploring the province, and the same with when we do the draw for the boat, perfect time for summer.”
More about the BGHF’s upcoming Cruise4Cancer lotto will be available on their website.
