Prince Edward County has decided to submit comments supporting measures to protect the population of American Eel in local waters to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
During a previous council meeting, council deferred a decision on this motion in order to collect additional information.
After a brief debate during Tuesday’s council meeting, councillors opted to submit comments in favour of the preservation efforts.
The local population of American Eel has declined over the years, and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada is considering adding it to the list of Wildlife Species at Risk.
