Belleville police responded to 100 calls for service over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. on April 2, 2024 to 5 a.m. on April 3, 2024.
Uttering threats to police and assaulting an officer leads to arrest
On April 2, 2024 shortly before 5 p.m., Belleville police responded to a west end residence regarding a disturbance. Upon their arrival, police learned that a male party was intoxicated and had engaged in a physical fight with a roommate. While police remained on scene investigating the disturbance, the intoxicated male began to utter threats towards police and assaulted an officer. During the arrest of the male, he also became physically resistant. As a result, a 25-year-old Belleville man was charged with uttering threats, assault police, resisting arrest and breaching his probation. He was held in custody for a bail hearing. There were no reported injuries to the involved officers.
Suspicious vehicle turns out to be stolen
On April 2, 2024 at 7:07 p.m., the Belleville Police Service responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Elgin St. in the city’s west end. Police arrived and began an investigation of the vehicle. The investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in the day from Barrie, Ontario. The driver of the vehicle, a 39-year-old female, was arrested without incident and charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000. The female was held for a bail hearing. Police are continuing the investigation into the stolen vehicle as well as the identity of the female.
