Trenton Golden Hawks goalie Ben Bonisteel has been recognized by the municipality of Quinte West for his work fundraising for VETS Canada during Wednesday’s council meeting.
During the Junior A hockey season, Bonisteel began a campaign to raise money for VETS Canada, by pledging to donate 50 cents for every save he made during the season. Over the course of the hockey season, he also collected additional donations to add to the total.
Currently, he has raised over $5,000.
Bonisteel said that he didn’t do the fundraising with recognition in mind.
“It’s cool to have a moment to look back and see that something that started as just a little idea in August turned into a huge, huge campaign by the end of the year and I’m very, very grateful,” said Bonisteel
VETS Canada is a non-profit dedicated to helping Canadian armed forces veterans facing homelessness.
