The golden pickle will be up for grabs next Wednesday when the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign holds the second annual pickleball tournament.
It is taking place at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre and pits a team of fundraisers from Quinte West against a team from Belleville.
Realtor Patricia Guernsey is the co-chair of the Strong Kids Campaign and the Belleville team cnwahtaptain.
“We have 32 players and of course Ken (Schmidt (McDonalds Trenton/Brighton/Campbellford – Quinte West Captain)) and I have been collecting funds as well. We’re currently at $92,459 (as of Mar 27). Team Schmidt or Quinte West is in the lead, so Belleville does need a little help. They are beating us, we’re trying to catch up to them.”
During their interview Wednesday on the Lorne Brooker Show, Guernsey discussed the important component of the event, which is raising dollars for the Strong Kids Campaign.
“This has been a phenomenal task for both Ken and I, calling in on our friends, their pocketbooks and so forth. Having a lot of fun along the way I might add.”
Ken Schmidt and his wife Cynthia own the McDonald’s restaurants in Trenton, Brighton and Campbellford. He is also the Quinte West Team Captain.
“We have online sponsorship for each player and they collect funds. Team Quinte West against Team Belleville.”
His says the Strong Kids Campaign is near and dear to his heart.
“The money that we raise for the YMCA supports financially disadvantaged families, youth, or children and they can utilize “Y” facilities, by accessing this money.”
