Prince Edward County council is urging the Ontario Government to establish a fund to help municipalities implement the standards laid out in the Access for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
During Tuesday’s council meeting, councillors briefly considered a motion to urge the provincial government to set up the fund in order to help municipalities implement and enforce AODA regulations.
Nearly three million Ontarians currently live with a disability, making up 22% of the consumer base and workforce.
The AODA was developed to implement and enforce standards in goods, services, accommodation, employment and buildings to help those with disabilities.
The motion was passed unanimously by councillors with no debate.
