Criminal incidents in Belleville increased in the last three months of 2023 when compared to the fourth quarter of 2022.
All statistics below are from the fourth quarters of 2023 and 2022
–There were 12 robberies in the fourth quarter of last year compared to seven the year before, an increase of 71%
–There were 58 break and enters in 2023, 48 in 2022
–There were 116 assaults in the fourth quarter last year compared to 82 in 2022, a 46% increase
–There were 35 sex offences last year compared with 22 the year before, for a 58% increase
–Fraud offences increased 71% from 62 in 2022 to 97 last year
–There were 31 drug offences last year in Belleville compared to 18 in 2022
–Last year there were 34 criminal harassment incidents compared to 28 the year before
–As far as uttering threat incidents are concerned, the fourth quarter of last year saw 40 incidents. In 2022 there were 30 incidents, a 70% increase
–In 2023 there were four cases of arson. In the same quarter of 2022 there were two.
In total there were 1,170 criminal incidents in the last three months of 2023 compared with 1,001 in 2022, a 28% increase.
The clearance rate in the fourth quarter last year was 48% while the year before it was 52%.
The above statistics will be discussed at a meeting of the Belleville Police Services Advisory Board Thursday.
