Donations are being made to Grace Inn Shelter after the Bay of Quinte chapter of the Green Party of Ontario challenged the other parties to join them in supporting the homeless shelter by sponsoring a bed.
Members of the executive team of both the Ontario Bay of Quinte Green Party and Ontario Liberals raised funds for the shelter.
The donations are being made through Grace Inn’s Sponsor-a-Bed program, and the donations from both parties will cover the cost of a one night stay every month for a year, with a total of $840 donated.
No party funds were used for the donations.
President of the Bay of Quinte Green Party Lori Borthwick said that after they put together their donation, they had the idea to challenge other local parties to donate as well to raise even more funds.
“I was really struck by the issue of homelessness in our community. I have seen it seems to be getting worse over time,” said Borthwick. “As the executive, we all got on board and raised the money to sponsor a bed.”
The donation will be presented to Grace Inn on Tuesday. Anyone seeking to donate can do so from Grace Inn’s website here.
