Prince Edward County OPP are warning people to beware of fraudulent fire inspectors.
An individual recently reported being contacted by someone claiming to be a fire inspector who claimed they needed to do a fire inspection of smoke alarms and other fire safety appliances in the home.
Police say in similar cases, the alleged inspector has asked the homeowner to provide them with photos and then there is a fine issued, sometimes paid in cryptocurrency.
Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue Fire Prevention Officer Mike Branscombe says the fire service will never ask for cryptocurrency or gift cards and, should a home or business need to be inspected, they will attend with proper identification and fire service vehicles.
