Quinte West is moving ahead with plans to establish a housing development working group despite not receiving requested federal funding.
During Wednesday’s council meeting, councillors received a report from city staff outlining the working group’s plans.
The working group was originally planned to use funds provided through the federal Housing Accelerator Fund in order to work on seven initiatives to boost housing production in Quinte West. Those initiatives include the building of affordable housing on municipally-owned property on College Street, policy changes to remove or reduce minimum parking requirements in new developments, and streamlining the building permit application process.
While the funding was not approved, council still voted to establish the working group consisting of a mixture of municipal staff and several councillors, and to continue work on the planned initiatives.
Council voted to appoint councillors Duncan Armstrong, Karen Sharpe, and David McCue to the working group.
