Some local home care workers have been honoured for the outstanding care they provide to our seniors and patients.
Home Care Ontario has awarded 40 nurses, Personal Support Workers (PSWs), therapists, and other home care professionals across the province with ‘Home Care Hero’ awards.
“These frontline home care professionals embody what it means to be a hero to their patients. They offer compassionate, valuable, life-saving care and are incredibly deserving of this recognition,” said Sue VanderBent, CEO of Home Care Ontario. “We want to put a face to these heroes and highlight the amazing job they do for their patients.”
The award winners were nominated by a person who witnessed their acts of everyday heroism.
Local recipients include:
- Janine (Katherine) Caldwell, a PSW from Belleville, for knowing precisely what her
clients’ needs are and sharing her knowledge with many new PSWs. - Wendy Balsillie and Wendy Marie Orr, both Registered Nurses from Belleville,
nominated one other and were both awarded as Home Care Heroes. Wendy Marie Orr
nominated her co-worker Wendy Balsillie and stated, “You’d want her as your nurse, she’s got
your back.” In turn, Wendy Balsillie nominated Wendy Marie Orr, saying, “She gives her patients
100% of her time and attention to meet their needs and comfort.” - Donna Whitford, a PSW from Amherstview, for going above and beyond and bending
over backwards for both her clients and colleagues.
