Brighton council is signing off on agreements that will soon see Automated Speed Enforcement cameras set up in a high traffic zone.
Council is buying two radar cameras and entering into a contract with a speeding ticket processing centre.
The cameras will monitor traffic on Elizabeth Street near Brighton Public and East Northumberland Secondary schools.
Mayor Brian Ostrander council does not see the automated system as a cash grab.
“Although we do anticipate that this will be a revenue draw, that’s not the intent. The intent is to get people to slow down.”
The school zone on Elizabeth Street will be posted with warning signs for 90 days before the cameras are activated.
