Visit the County is reporting a successful 2023 year.
During a presentation to Prince Edward County Committee of the Whole on Thursday, Vice Chair of Visit the County Charlie McKee informed members of council about their activity over the past year
The previous year, 2023, was the first full year that Visit the County had been operating since it was established in 2022. During 2023, visits to the county nearly tripled, with a grand total of 326,000 visitors.
One of the major achievements was the completion of their new website in 2023 which included a directory of accommodations in the county, allowing tourists to more easily book their stay.
Visit The County also experienced great success in using social media to connect to potential visitors, with viewership growing on their Instagram page by 15% during a brief six-week social media campaign.
Councillor Roy Pennell had concerns that Visit the County’s digital approach to marketing could miss out on attracting visitors who stay in neighbouring communities for lower prices.
“Why are we banking everything on digital and not papers we can hand out,” asked Pennell. “There’s a lot of young families that might come to the community, but if it is, it’s only for a day trip.”
The presentation was accepted, but no action was taken at this time.
