A long dreamed of facility for Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory will begin taking shape next week.
Construction of the Kenhte:ke Language and Cultural Centre will begin Monday March 18.
The centre will feature classrooms, offices, adult education rooms, a teaching kitchen, an art studio, a rooftop medicine garden, an outdoor playground, and a gathering space for up to 300 people for community events. Also, part of the project will be a traditional Mohawk longhouse.
The centre will be located on Salmon Road and will cost approximately $14 million with almost $10 million of the total coming from the federal government.
