Impaired driver arrested
An early morning call from a Bell Boulevard business reporting a group of intoxicated teenagers in a vehicle led to the arrest of a 22-year-old Belleville man, Sunday. Officers were called around 3 a.m. after the group of young people were refused entry into the business. At the time, several members advised they had a designated, sober driver, however, the caller indicated the group piled into a vehicle and left the scene. The vehicle was located in the city’s east end and an investigation led to the arrest. Charged with failing to comply with a breath demand is Alexander Greenless, 22, of Belleville. He was issued a court date of April 11, 2024 and released. As a result of the alcohol-related driving charge, his licence was suspended and vehicle impounded.
Family gathering leads to charges
A Saturday evening family gathering didn’t end well for a 44-year-old man from out of town. Officers arrived at a residence in the north end of the city shortly before 10 p.m. for a report of a family dispute that turned violent. Upon arrival, officers were informed of an assault involving extended family members. Subsequently, a 44-year-old male from Ajax was charged with assault. He has been released with a court date set for April 11th, 2024. Minor injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Cutting through lot leads to arrest
A 36-year-old Quinte West man will be due to appear in court next month to face impaired driving charges following an incident in a parking lot Saturday morning. Shortly before 1 a.m., Belleville police officers responding to an unrelated call at a North Front Street business were caught off guard when the driver of a truck sped through the parking lot at an “alarming rate.” The vehicle was intercepted on North Front Street and the driver, following an investigation, was charged. Charged with impaired driving and operating a vehicle with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his blood is Devon Scobie. The vehicle Scobie was operating was impounded and his licence was suspended. He was released with a court date of April 11, 2024.
Keen observations leads to vehicle recovery
An officer on patrol Friday morning recovered a vehicle that had been reportedly taken without the permission of the owner earlier in the week. The vehicle was observed on Front Street and pulled over. The 35-year-old Belleville man driving the vehicle was found to have a suspended licence and was subsequently charged and issued a April 8 date in traffic court. Meanwhile, officers found a passenger in the vehicle to be wanted on a warrant issued by the Ontario Provincial Police. He was arrested and turned over to the OPP.
