Belleville City Council has approved consulting services for the preliminary design work to reconstruct Old Highway 2 from Haig Road to Point Anne Road.
At its meeting on Monday, council approved a Request for Proposal from GHD Limited at a cost of just under $456,000, HST included.
Council also approved increasing the budget for the project by $115,000 to $465,000.
Originally, $350,000 for preliminary design was approved in the 2021 capital budget, however the provincial government was making changes to the Environmental Assessment process, so staff decided to put project on hold, awaiting changes.
The province recently finalized amendments to EA process and this project no longer requires it.
Council approved the additional $115,000 on Monday as it was determined the original funds were insufficient for the scope of work necessary.
The design phase of the project is expected to take about 18 months with approximately two years of construction likely to follow, possibly in a phased approach.
Project completion will be sometime in 2027 or 2028.
