Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue is set to transition to a new fire dispatch service starting Tuesday, March 26.
In September 2023, council approved an agreement with St. Catharines Fire Services to provide 24/7 emergency call taking and dispatch services to Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue.
The County says its emergency response will improve due to the transition as on-duty firefighters will now respond immediately to incidents without having to answer 911 and dispatch incidents.
County residents’ access to 911 phone services will not be affected during this transition.
The new agreement allows the County to meet the mandatory transition to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission’s Next Gen 911 system, which is required by March 2025.
