Belleville police responded to 90 calls for service over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. on March 7, 2024 to 5 a.m. on March 8, 2024.
Rake-wielding suspect nabbed
A call to the south end of the city led to the arrest of a 52-year-old man late Thursday. Officers were dispatched to the area of South John Street after several residents called to report a man, wielding a rake, was swinging it uncontrollably while walking between residences along the road. Police located the male a short time later and he was arrested on prowl by night and charges including breach of probation. The man, of no fixed address, was held for a bail hearing.
One person to hospital, charged
An 18-year-old Brighton woman was charged with a Highway Traffic Act offence following a two-vehicle crash at a busy Dundas Street East intersection Thursday. Around 6:30 p.m., front-line emergency workers with police, fire and paramedics responded to the incident at the intersection of Dundas St. E. and Foster Avenue. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene and one driver was extricated from a vehicle and treated at Belleville General Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The female from Brighton was charged with failing to stop at a red light.
