A cost-cutting effort by the Department of National Defence will change the scenery on 8 Wing Trenton’s airfield.
In a press release Thursday, Lieutenant-General Eric Kenny said two one-year lease options for two BE 350 King Air aircraft will not be exercised, effective March 31.
In the past, the small aircraft owned by Air Tindi had been used for passenger transport and pilot training.
The cancellation of the lease options on the two planes will save the the department $7.2 million and will not affect the air force’s operations.
General Kenny says the RCAF is in the midst of a significant modernization and the government has committed to buying around 140 new aircraft.
