Northumberland OPP have made an arrest related to a person wanted on separate incidents of arson and theft.
It began on October 31, 2023 when police were called regarding a piece of furniture that had been set on fire outside an King Street East address in Colborne.
The accused had left the area before police arrived.
On November 8, 2023, a complaint was made to police about a theft from a store on King Street East in Colborne.
Police say the complainant had discovered that the incident happened earlier in the day.
As a result of both investigations, a person was identified and officers attended an address in Colborne.
An arrest was made on February 20, 2024.
Twenty-nine-year-old Thomas Merriman was charged with the following:
- Theft under $5,000 – shoplifting
- Arson – damage to property
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.
