Hastings Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB) will be looking over a recommendation to advocate for a National School Food program at its meeting Monday.
The motion calls for the federal government to include funding for a National School Food Program in its 2024 budget.
(HPEDSB) would join together with other school boards under the Ontario Public School Board Association to send a letter to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland.
The letter states that the impact of student nutrition on both the physical and mental wellbeing and academic achievement is well documented in education and public health research.
It goes on to say that Canada is the only G7 countryt to not have a national school food program, instead relying on a patchwork of regional and local groups with inconsistent funding.
The Board meeting begins at 7 p.m. and it can be viewed here.
