Belleville police are again warning the public to be on guard against frauds, with the latest involving
aggressive in-person sales tactics.
Last Thursday, an 87-year-old Belleville man set up an appointment with someone online who represented a company offering home appliance efficiency rebates.
A man claiming to be from the company went to the victim’s home and walked in uninvited, using aggressive sales tactics. He was asked to leave but would not and would not give his name or the company’s name.
The victim’s daughter managed to stop the victim from signing any documents, believed to be for a loan to install a hot water tank with the promise of rebates.
The man finally left, driving away in a silver KIA car with out of province licence plates.
It’s believed the man is part of a large online advertising fraud aiming to confuse senior citizens into buying work that doesn’t get done or gets done improperly with no follow-up.
