A Candlelight Vigil was held on Saturday evening at Market Square in downtown Belleville, to mark the second anniversary of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
A crowd of people consisting of Canadians, Ukrainian-Canadian residents, and newly arrived Ukrainians braved the cold to mark the passing of this milestone.
Organizer Myroslava Symonenko of Belleville’s Humanity For Free Ukraine spoke about the solemn occasion, and showed a slideshow of images marking key turning points and human experiences over the past two years of war and bombardment. The presentation was projected onto a simple white sheet, held by attendees of the vigil.
The crowd then sang the Ukrainian national anthem in support for the embattled country in the fight for freedom against the Russian invasion.
