Prince Edward OPP have arrested three people in connection with a door-to-door sales scam.
Police received a report on Valentine’s Day about a person being approached the previous day by someone offering to shovel their driveway.
The homeowner requested the work be done the next day but was wary of the individual and contacted OPP.
When the individual returned with their partners, they fled the scene after learning that police were contacted.
Officers were able to locate the vehicle on Highway 62 and arrested three individuals.
No charges were laid but the three were turned over to a Federal enforcement partner.
OPP has given the following tips to avoid falling victim to a fraud:
- Be wary of unsolicited contractors who approach you
- Do not make on-the-spot decisions about hiring a contractor
- Do your research
- If it’s too good to be true, it likely is!
