A comprehensive parking study is now underway in downtown Belleville.
The need for a parking study was first identified in the City of Belleville’s Transportation Master Plan in 2014.
Officials say much has changed in the city since then, and emerging trends and new technologies highlight the immediate need for short- and long-term planning when it comes to parking in the downtown core.
Paradigm Transportation Solutions Limited has been hired to complete the study.
Survey staff will be collecting data on the number of vehicles parked downtown.
During this time, residents may notice individuals recording the last three digits of licence plates on parked cars.
This information is being collected for parking data purposes only, in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
Access to all roads, sidewalks and parking lots will remain uninterrupted throughout this process.
Once the initial data collection process has been completed, the project team will be engaging the community to address the following questions:
• Is there enough parking in the downtown to address peak demands?
• Are there different ways to manage parking demand and/or supply to avoid or defer the need for costly construction of new municipal lots?
• Are there innovative ways to improve the parking experience for visitors, customers and employees in the downtown area?
• With all the changes influencing travel behaviour today, what does the future of parking look like and how do we prepare for it?
Residents are encouraged to stay tuned to the project page at Belleville.ca/2024ParkingStudy for future updates and public engagement opportunities.
