United Way Hastings Prince Edward has announced the success of their 2023 fundraising campaign.
United Way was able to successfully raise $2,220,422, exceeding their goal of $2,200,000.
The announcement was made during a celebration at the Empire Theatre in Belleville on Thursday night, where community members and fundraising partners were shown a private screening of Uncharitable, a documentary film about how constraints placed on charities can limit the change they can bring to their communities.
Dan McCullough, the 2023 campaign cabinet chair, said the campaign goal was daunting and that the entire team worked hard to achieve it.
“The team worked as hard as we could, I’m proud of what every team member contributed to it,” said McCullough. “I think tonight is a reflection for our whole team of a job well done.”
Brandi Hodge, United Way Hastings and Prince Edward Executive Director, said that it was a good year for fundraising, despite challenges.
“Regardless of whether someone gives a dollar or they give a hundred thousand dollars, every single dollar adds up to the total we announced tonight,” said Hodge. “We have massive community need that we’re trying to meet as best we can so every dollar counts.”
The funds will go to support both the United Way’s own charitable initiatives in the community, such as the Backpacks for Success program which provides school supplies to local children, as well as funding third party not-for-profit initiatives who request funding assistance.
All funds raised in Hastings Prince Edward remain, supporting initiatives in the area. The not for profits who will receive funding are set to be announced next week.
