MP Ryan Williams used the news of Cascades closing its two Bay of Quinte plants to call out the federal government’s policies in the House of Commons on Tuesday.
Williams called it “devastating news for the employees and families of Cascades. Cascades has been a vital employer for over 100 years in our region. Even when the company found itself in a tough spot 12 years ago, it found a way to fight back and stay in our community.”
He added, “Cascades closing is just one more example of the misery that Justin Trudeau’s inflation and interest rates have inflicted on our community. This news follows on the heels of other company layoffs like Manulife, Rona, TD Bank, Amazon and Canadian Tire. I have spoken with local officials who promise the City of Quinte West, along with the Quinte Development Council, will work together to assist Cascades employees in finding meaningful work with the region.”
