The Belleville Senators defeated the Utica Comets 5-4 at CAA Arena on Saturday night, avenging their Friday night loss.
Oskar Pettersson, Jiri Smejkal, Angus Crookshank, and Garrett Pilon scored for the Senators.
Belleville opened scoring early in the first period, but Utica slipped in a late point to even the score going into the second. During the second, Belleville grabbed three goals while Utica kept the pressure on with two of their own, keeping the scores close going into the third frame. In the third, Belleville took one more goal, before Utica answered with their fourth of the night, keeping their slim lead alive and securing the win.
Belleville Sens head coach Dave Bell was happy with how the team played, especially Pettersson getting his first goal with three games on the team.
βI think they bought in after we went hard on them this morning. They played a bit more to our identity and guys got rewarded early,β said Coach Bell. βIt was nice to see Oskar get rewarded by getting to the inside and we rolled from there. The power play finally had a night, so that was good.β
The Senators are back in action on Wednesday, hosting the Syracuse Crunch.
