The local unemployment rate was unchanged from December to January.
According to Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey, the unemployment rate in the Belleville Census Metropolitan Area remained at four per cent last month.
Unemployment in a couple of areas around Belleville rose.
Kingston’s rate climbed from six per cent in December to 6.3 per cent in January while Peterborough’s rate rose from 3.7 to 4.2 per cent.
Both the national and provincial rates ticked down a tenth of a point.
The national rate dropped to 5.7 per cent in January while Ontario’s rate fell to 6.2 per cent.
