With the need for electric vehicle charging stations growing, Brighton is ready to jump on board.
This week council gave municipal staff the go ahead to apply for grants through Aviva Canada’s Charged for Change and the Ministry of Transportation’s EV ChargeON programs which can provide funding for 75 to 100 per cent of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Brighton Mayor Brian Ostrander says there are no public chargers in the municipality but they’re ready for them.
“When we re-did the municipal parking lot beside Sobeys in downtown Brighton we added the infrastructure underneath to be able to put charging stations in. We didn’t have the funds at the time because of cost escalations to be able to put those charging stations in but the infrastructure is there and ready to go.”
He adds the hope is that while people are charging their vehicles, they’ll shop downtown.
