The City of Belleville’s Planning Committee approved a recommendation to expand Belleville General Hospital’s parking lot.
The expansion would take place at the east side of the hospital where an existing parking lot would be expanded to allow 107 additional parking spaces.
One resident expressed concerns about lighting, noise, fumes and a potential decrease in property value.
Before the approval, city staff said the applicant, Quinte Healthcare Corporation, would address the concerns during site plan approval.
The expanded parking looks to address a shortage of spots for staff.
At a previous committee meeting, Titus Lee, with RFA Planning Consultant Inc., said that he was informed of a wait list of over 200 staff looking for parking spots and that the expansion plan would be an interim solution to address the problem.
The recommendation will be brought forward to Belleville City Council at a future meeting.
