A Trenton man has pleaded guilty in relation to a historical sexual assault investigation.
Derek Bemister pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual assault.
Bemister was initially charged by Quinte West OPP on August 15, 2023 with the following:
- Sexual interference (person under 16 years of age)
- Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age
- Sexual assault
The other two charges were withdrawn as part of a resolution between the crown and the defense.
Bemister was given a suspended sentence with three years probation. He will receive counselling as directed and is ordered not to have contact with the victim.
He was also ordered to provide a DNA sample and was given a SOIRA (Sex Offender Information Registration Act) order for 10 years.
