Work continues on the Memorial Market Place project in downtown Belleville.
TaskForce Engineering Ltd. is transforming the former arena into a 20,000 square foot retail hub.
One business, Benji’s Coffee Bar, is already operating out of the old scale house.
This week, Director of Engineering & Business Development for TaskForce, Hilary Murphy, updated Quinte News on where the project stands.
TaskForce won the bid to redevelop Memorial Arena and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 99 in 2019 but progress on the project was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Murphy says they are now in the process of acquiring the former Legion property from the city with completion expected sometime this month.
The building will be knocked down to provide parking.
Interior removals have commenced on the Memorial building with the construction of retail units scheduled to be completed this fall and available for lease.
According to Murphy, the total redevelopment schedule will be dependent on leasing, however, it is anticipated that the full build-out will take three years to complete.
They are accepting leasing enquiries now through Joe Shunock of Ekort Realty.
