Two men were arrested with one being charged with assaulting a police officer after an employee’s purse was stolen from a North Front Street business early Saturday (Jan 27) evening.
Belleville police say two men entered the rear of the business and stole a purse while its owner was working.
Later that evening, officers spotted two suspects walking on North Front Street and proceeded to arrest them with one man assaulting an officer.
Charged with theft under $5,000 and breaching probation was 31-year-old Paul Matheson.
Charged with theft under $5,000 and assaulting police was 26-year-old Devin Deacon. Both are from Belleville.
Most of the victim’s belongings were recovered.
