The Grand Rapids Griffins defeated the Belleville Senators 6-4 on Saturday night.
Angus Crookshank, Josh Currie, and Matthew Highmore scored for the Senators.
The Griffins got off to an early lead with two unanswered goals in the first period, but after the Griffins grabbed a third goal in the second period, the Senators struck back hard with four back-to-back goals, taking a slim lead going into the third frame. During the third, the Griffins claimed three more goals while keeping the Senators at bay to take back the lead and win the game.
This loss extends the Belleville Senators’ losing streak to six games.
Belleville Senators Head Coach Dave Bell said the team needs to open games stronger.
“It’s commendable that we fight back, but it’s getting tiresome and repetitive that we have to get back in games. If we start better and be ready on time, we wouldn’t have that problem,” said Coach Bell. “It’s hard on the body, it’s hard on the bench and we’ve just got to figure out a way to start better.”
The Senators have a week off before continuing their road trip next weekend in Syracuse against the Crunch.
