The corner of Loyalist Parkway and Lakeside Drive in Prince Edward County is set to be the site of a new housing development.
During the county’s planning committee meeting on Wednesday, council members received a report from staff on the plans to subdivide a plot of land to make 33 single, detached homes. A new street would provide access off Lakeside drive, forming a loop inside the property with homes both on the outside and inside of the loop.
The land was previously used for farming.
Councillors brought up some environmental concerns during the meeting, including potential impacts on local water quality and surrounding wetland.
Councillor Kate MacNaughton also brought up environmental concerns with light pollution.
“Because it’s between two biologically active wetlands. It would be good to take as much care to keep those lighting systems very focused,” said Councillor MacNaughton “I would urge you to take as much care to keep those systems as low to the ground as possible and as focused as possible.”
The report was received by council members and the subdivision was given draft approval as recommended.
