Hastings County voted in favour of supporting a motion from Chatham-Kent regarding Ontario Works Rates.
The motion calls for council in Chatham-Kent to prepare a letter addressed to the Premier of Ontario, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services and local MPPs to strongly recommend that accommodation rates of social assistance payments increase to the Average Market Rent for recipients of Ontario Works Assistance and the Ontario Disability Support Program.
This would account for all types of rentals.
A copy of the letter would be sent to the AMO, ROMA, alPHa and all councils in Ontario.
