With just three games left in their inaugural season the Centre Hastings Ice Miners have been terminated by the Eastern Ontario Superior Hockey League. The team, which played out of Marmora and Madoc, was in its first year of operation.
In an email to Quinte News, spokesperson Adam Gray said, “We were set to relocate to Trent Hills. The league said they needed to vote to approve it. Sunday night I received this message via Facebook messenger from the league stats guy, not even the president. I never folded, never intended to and had other options available. (See below.)
From the EOSHL:
“The Centre Hastings team will be terminated as of tonight (Sunday) from the EOSHL. We looked at many situations that have occurred over the season, and most recently the last week, and all teams but two were engaged in the decision to give termination to the team. The final decision was at a 10-2 vote for termination. Relocating is not always a good thing while a season is being played, and for us (Mitch, Troy and Brad) we had to go to all owners as we feel this was a big decision to vote on.”
The league will either conduct a dispersal draft or deem Ice Miners players to be free agents.
