Suspended driver nabbed
An officer on traffic duty pulled over and charged a 52-year-old Belleville resident with driving with a suspended licence, Saturday. The incident took place around 12:40 a.m. Saturday while an officer was completing routine traffic stops on Dundas Street East and pulled over a vehicle for an infraction. A check of the driver’s licence revealed he was suspended from driving in Ontario. He was further charged with failing to have a validated permit and failing to provide an insurance card. The man was given a traffic court date of March 4, 2024 to face the charges.
Concerned citizen leads to impaired driver
Thanks to a call to police, a concerned citizen assisted in getting an impaired driver off city roads over the weekend. Early Saturday morning, around 2:30 a.m., police received a call from a resident who was concerned after observing an erratically-driven vehicle in the area of College Street East and North Park Street. The caller advised the driver slammed into a snowbank and kept driving, despite causing damage to the vehicle. An officer located the vehicle on Station Street and ascertained the 32-year-old female behind the wheel was impaired by alcohol. She was arrested at the scene and transported to the Belleville Police Station for additional alcohol testing. Charged with impaired driving, failing to comply with a demand for a breath sample and careless driving is Katrina Eagleton, 32, of Belleville. Eagleton was released on an undertaking and a court date of February 22, 2024 to face the charges.
Speeding impaired driver
A 37-year-old Belleville man has a court date next month after he was charged with impaired driving late Sunday. An officer on patrol noticed a vehicle exceeding the speed limit on North Front Street shortly before 11:30 p.m. and pulled the motorist over. An investigation determined the male had been drinking alcohol and was impaired. Charged with impaired driving and having 80 milligrams of alcohol in his blood is Gordon Thomas, 37, of Belleville. Thomas was issued a court date of February 8, 2024 to face the charges.
