Thousands of people enjoyed a beautiful day downtown at last year’s Belleville Caribbean Festival and plans are in the works to expand the event’s footprint and run it for three days this summer.
Michelle Lochan is the city’s tourism sector specialist and tells Quinte News Belleville’s Caribbean Festival has quickly become one of the biggest in Canada.
Lochan says a three-day festival with a much bigger parade and more entertainment will help all kinds of businesses throughout the area.
“We know larger Caribbean communities are outside of the Bay of Quinte and because of the culture component are willing to come here for that
experience or cultural experience and may be willing to invest the extra day to stay.”
The city is applying for funding from the provincial government to help pay for an expanded festival.
