Bob Cook was known by thousands in the Quinte region and will be remembered for his contribution to many thousands more.
It was his work behind the scenes that made him so well known.
Bob Cook has died.
The former City of Belleville Public Works employee was a member of the Belleville Sports Hall of Fame, was named the 1990 City of Belleville Citizen of the Year, and was also a recipient of the Canada 125 Medal from the Government of Canada.
Cook’s community involvement included boys and girls hockey, girls minor softball and more.
He sat on the Executive of the Eastern Ontario Womens’ Hockey Association and is credited with the rejuvenation of womens’ softball in the community.
His roles over his time in sports included sitting on boards, he served as manager, convener, umpire, umpire in chief and coach.
Cook also served as the president of the Belleville Minor Hockey Association and held hockey schools that were free of charge.
He is survived by his wife Doreen, five sons and two daughters.
Cook was in his 90th year.
His visitation is at Steele Funeral Home at Coleman/Moira on Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
The funeral will be at St. Columba Presbyterian Church Thursday from 11:00 p.m.
