More Canadians were receiving Employment Insurance nationally, provincially and locally in November.
Statistics Canada reports there were 460,000 Canadians receiving regular EI benefits in November, up 1.7% or 7,000 from October.
On a year-over-year basis, the total number of regular EI beneficiaries increased by 53,000 (+13.1%) from November 2022 to November 2023.
In Ontario, there were 4,000 more recipients of regular EI benefits in November, a 3% increase from October, the fourth consecutive monthly increase in this province.
In the Belleville Census Metropolitan Area, 1,160 people were on EI in November, up 50 people or 4.5% compared to the month before.
It is a 6.4% increase over November 2022.
