The 2024 Rural Ontario Municipal Association Conference gets underway this weekend in Toronto.
Dignitaries from hundreds of municipalities will be on hand, including the City of Quinte West.
Mayor Jim Harrison says it is a chance to meet with provincial ministers.
“One with the Minister of Health that were talking about doctor recruitment and competing factor that we’re all faced with and the cost.”
He added they will be meeting with the Minister of Infrastructure to discuss several projects that Quinte West needs financial assistance with.
One of the concerns Harrison points out is provincial downloading to municipalities.
“And of course they’re downloading more and more on us, but the download doesn’t come with any additional funding. That’s what we’re concerned with.”
Harrison says one of the difficulties of the meetings is to set yourself apart from other municipalities, with many going through the same trials.
He finished by stating that one of the best parts of the meetings is to meet with other municipal council and staff representatives from across Ontario.
“Sometimes you pick up something that you may have missed, or maybe they pick up something that they’ve missed, or we need to set up some different aspects.”
