The Trenton Golden Hawks ran into a hot goaltender and had to settle on a 4-4 double overtime tie with the Cougars in Cobourg Monday night.
Ryan Piros stopped 46 of 50 Trenton shots to help the Cougars get a point against the OJHL East leaders.
Samuel Ivanov faced 36 shots in the G-Hawks’ net.
Adam O’Marra scored his 33rd of the season. Taeo Artichuk (10th), Owen Wilson (4th) and Kyloe Ellis (3rd) scored for Trenton.
Belleville native Trevor Hoskin scored two for the Cougars. He has 28 on the year.
The Golden Hawks open a 12-point lead on second place Wellington in the OJHL East Conference.
Trenton hosts the Haliburton Huskies on Friday.
Meanwhile the G-Hawks have moved up two spots in the weekly Canadian Junior Hockey League rankings. They are now fifth in Canada.
