The 37-year-old Peters was in his fourth season with Belleville. He replaces Zac Bierk who has been reassigned to a scouting role.
This season Ottawa’s goaltenders rank 30th in the NHL with a 3.67 goals against average and 31st with an .882 save percentage.
Belleville goaltenders have combined for a 2.89 average with a .910 save percentage.
The Blyth, Ontario native had a 14 -year professional career including seven seasons in the NHL with the Carolina Hurricanes, Washington Capitals and Arizona Coyotes.
Peters becomes the second member of the Belleville coaching staff to be promoted by Ottawa. He joins former B-Sens assistant coach/player Ben Sexton who was hired prior to this season.
