Quinte News has learned more information about Sunday evening’s fire in Quinte West that sent two people to hospital.
Firefighters from Bayside and Batawa fire halls were called out just after 7 p.m. to 801 Old Highway 2 near Whites Road in Bayside.
A husband and wife were taken to Trenton Memorial hospital.
The elderly male, who suffered third-degree burns, was airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto.
A cat was also rescued from the basement.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whelan says it appears the fire started when the man attempted to use an accelerant to light his wood stove.
The fire was mostly contained to the area around the wood stove and damage is estimated at around $50,000.
